Instruction of care

Posted on Wed Apr 11th, 2018 @ 2:03am by Lieutenant T'vash

Mission: New Ship, New Crew
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: Current

Karina adjusted the collar on her uniform, still not quite believing the black pip that was the newest addition. She had dropped her son off at child care and was waiting for the turbolift to stop. When it did, she stepped off of it and walked up the corridor to Sickbay. She walked into the room, looking around for the CMO's office.

She spotted it, and a Vulcan female was sitting at the desk. She walked up to the desk.

"Nurse Karina Beck, reporting aboard, ma'am. " she said.

"Peace, and long life, Nurse Beck." T'vash replied. "I am Doctor T'vash." She looked up from a PADD. T'vash raised an eyebrow. "I am unaccustomed to nurses who hold officer ranks. Most commonly, this position is held by enlisted personnel. Are you nearly finished your doctorate?"

"I've actually completed them, ma'am. I just need to complete my clinicals before I'm licensed. I recieved a waiver from completing them in a hospital when my husband was assigned to the Alabama. I'll only need for you to agree to act as my advisor. " said Karina.

This was an unexpectedly pleasant surprise, though T'vash didn't react. The ability to teach someone else to save lives. To improve the needs of the many. "So long as you agree to ensure your practice is adequately supervised, and you do not attempt anything you are not certain you can handle, you will be accepted as a provisional health care provider, and not assigned nursing duties. Your certifications are more important, than ensuring the medicinal cabinets are adequately stocked."

"Of course, Doctor. I won't attempt any kind of operation without your supervision, and I'll clear it with you before I administer any medications until you feel confident that I can manage it on my own. " said Karina.

"You misunderstand me. Confidence in practice is taught through experience." T'vash replied. "You will be trusted to handle patients with which you are comfortable treating. Instructive sessions with patients you are not, will be held, as they appear, time permitting."

"Yes ma'am. Thank you. " said Karina.

"Excellent." T'vash said, with a nod. "You may begin by displaying your basic capacities. I have the requirement of passing a physical, just like any other officer." She said, setting her PADD aside. "It is commonly a symbol of trust, among Vulcan healers, to permit their students to care for their well being. I now entreat you with this same honor. Come with me. Let's find an examination room."

"Yes Doctor. " said Karina, following the doctor out of her office.

"Good. Doctor." T'vash replied, with a nod, as she led the woman out. Inwardly, though T'vash was not about to admit it publicly, the concept of training new Doctors to save lives was a very welcome necessity. She didn't quite smile, as she found an exam room. "Let's begin."
