Doing the rounds

Posted on Tue Apr 10th, 2018 @ 6:01pm by Lieutenant Commander Anders Odegaard

Mission: New Ship, New Crew
Location: Main Engineering

Anders stepped into Main Engineering on the Alabama, as the XO he was the first port of call before the Captain and naturally he had to do his rounds. With all of the activity of the Alabama and the vast amount of work being done to get the Ship operational the Norwegian Commander was going round each Department to see how things were progressing.

He had been on the Ship a significant amount of time, even before some of the Engineers and had personally overseen some of the updates himself, he had ordered for upgrades to Deck 17 after the Gravity malfunctioned but they hadn't happened. He wanted to know why.

The Engineering Deck was similar to that of a Galaxy Class or a Sovereign and the Engineers must have heard of his no nonsense attitude towards Starship operations and the manner in which his orders were to be carried out. Two Junior Apprentices stopped and snapped to attention when they saw him approach. Odegaard had to chuckle a little bit, it would appear his legend was growing already. Several of the Ensigns and a couple of Petty Officers were gathered round the Warp Core.

"Where's the Chief?" Odegaard asked as he looked around the busy Engineering Deck. There were lots of Gold Shirts but none who visibly stood out.

"Not aboard yet." A female voice called behind him. "Neither is the Assistant either." She said as she approached him, the young featured Officer said with a smile. "Lieutenant Junior Grade Isabelle Collier, Senior System Specialist and I guess acting Chief Engineer at the current moment in time."

Odegaard looked at his PADD, the information his Yeoman had given him was evidently wrong. "Well then Lieutenant you can be the one to explain to me why the Team I assigned to Deck 17 never showed up." He commented to her raising an eyebrow.

"Lack of resources." The attractive Officer replied to him. Blunt and to the point. "All the teams you have are either trying to update environmental controls or system checks on Life Support."

"And meanwhile Crews with Quarters assigned to Deck 17 have to float along the deck as though they were birds?" The Commander asked her.

"Least they can breath." Collier responded with a slight smirk. The Engineer clearly had a sense of humour. "Apologies Sir I was only told about your request earlier this afternoon and I still had Habitable parts of the Ship reading at 55 degrees Celsius." She then took a PADD off a Crewman and then looked towards Odegaard. "It was put on the list."

The Commander ordinarily wouldn't appreciate the humour from an Officer but he had learnt that Engineers were a different breed and so naturally he gave them some leeway. "Alright Miss Collier that's fair enough, however I would like it finished up and fixed by the end of the day." The XO said to her.

"I'll move a Team from Propulsion and have them look into it." She said with a nod as she used her rolled up sleeve to wipe a hair out of her face. "Unless I can tempt you into picking up a Tricorder and a Calibration Tool and do it yourself?"

"Or not." Odegaard chuckled. "The rest of your Engineers should be arriving by tomorrow and the day after if not sooner." He said as he skimmed his PADD. "What's the current status of the refit?"

"Gamma and Echo completed the final checks on the Tactical and Communication Systems this morning, Kilo team expect to be done upgrading the secondary power grid tonight." She paused as she looked at Odegaard. "I'm going to check on the plasma regulators myself."

With a final nod towards the Engineer and her progress. "I'll leave you to your work then Lieutenant, keep me updated." He said before heading off to carry on with his rounds.

"Aye Commander." She said snapping to to it and then smiling. She liked him already.

As Odegaard left he turned back and gave the Engineer a final glance. He liked her already.
