Mission: Shakedown Cruise
Location: Engineering

The Alabama was well underway and everything seemed to be running smoothly from the reports Andreas had been receiving. It was nearing the end of the main duty shift and he was feeling a bit antsy. Getting up from the centre chair and looking around, he nodded towards the duty officer. "Lieutenant, you have the bridge."

"Aye, sir."

Striding up to the aft turbolift, he entered as the doors opened. "Main Engineering."

After a reasonably short ride, he stepped out onto the Engineering deck. Walking into Engineering proper, he looked around in appreciation, thinking he should have done a tour in Engineering before going to command school.

"What the heck are you doing down here?" Dave asked, shocked, then at the last moment he remembered to add, "Sir."

Andreas barely stopped himself from laughing at the Engineer's response. "I'm just doing a walk about of the ship to finish out my shift, Lieutenant and figured I'd pop in to see how things are going down here. How are things down here? Is there anything I can do to help?

"Um, help?" Dave stammered. "I'm not exactly sure what you might help with, but if you want to hang out for a while, I won't complain. We're mostly just performing routine operations at the moment. Diagnostics, re-calibrations, that sort of thing." he added. "I guess my best advice is 'Get in where you fit in.' as my Momma used to always say."

"Thank you, Lieutenant. Since my life prior to command was in security and tactical, I'll stick with the systems I used while there, minus the weapon systems." Andreas said as he sat down at the nearest console. Pulling up the lateral sensor array and started diagnostics. "They are running decently, but would it be possible to increase the efficiency by another 0.13%?"

Dave chuckled, "You see's it too, huh? I thought it was just me." he answered. "I've been trying to find that glitch for two days."

Andreas nodded. "Ok, Lieutenant. I'm going to leave things in your hands. Thank you for indulging me."

"Anytime, Sir." Dave said with a chuckle.
