Meeting the New Sec/Tac

Posted on Fri Oct 19th, 2018 @ 5:20pm by Captain Andreas O'Shaunessy & Lieutenant JG Judah Taggart

Mission: Shakedown Cruise
Location: Captain's Ready Room

Andreas had retreated to his ready room to catch his breath for a few minutes. While still reasonably uneventful, he was worrying about what might come on the Alabama's shakedown cruise. He knew the crew was more than up for anything that came their way, but he was still new to command and hoped he could handle whatever came their way.

He opened the console on his desk to go over reports when he noted a new communication from Iota. "Excellent, we're getting ourselves a new Security/Tactical officer!! I'll feel much better once their manning their station." Andreas said to himself.

Judah stepped off of the transport pad after picking up his bags. Returning the salute to the Ensign manning the transport station he quickly received directions to his quarters and the Captain's Quarters.

Standing outside the Ready Room, Judah straightened his uniform once more before announcing his presence.

"Come in." Andreas said as he got up from his desk.

Judah stepped through the doorway, "Lt. Taggart, reporting for duty sir."

"Welcome aboard the Alabama, Lieutenant." Andreas said, motioning to the empty chair. "It won't take too much to get you up to speed, so this should be a quick meeting." He continued as he sat down.

Judah sat down quickly, while sizing up the captain. He appreciated the no-nonsense approach the captain seemed to take, there was nothing more aggravating than a long winded speech by a Commanding Officer who enjoyed hearing his own voice.

"Thank you Captain, I am looking forward to serving aboard the Alabama. In fact I grew up in the state of Alabama along the Gulf Coast. I must admit when I heard of her commissioning several years I secretly hoped to get the opportunity to serve aboard her, but never thought it would be as a Department Head."

"From what I've seen of your service record, you've earned a department head position, Lieutenant." Andreas said. "The Alabama has just finished a retrofit and are currently putting her through her paces on her shakedown cruise. We're working out the kinks as we go and have handled everything we've come up against. We're closing in on the Ankari system which is the halfway point of our cruise. Once past the system, we'll be heading back to Iota Station to bring on more supplies and head out for our first main mission. Any questions so far?"

Judah nodded as the Captain briefed him on the the mission, "The only question I have sir is about security. While in transit from earth to the Iota system to meet the Alabama, I was unable to receive the normal threat assessments from the Federation. Are there any specific threats we should watch for in particular? I understand we do have a Marine contingent on board."

"There are no specific threats, however, we still have a lot to learn about the quadrant and the species who live out here. I recommend being ready for anything as a general rule. As for the Marine's, they'll handle security for ground missions while you handle security and tactical on the ship. With that being said, though, I encourage you to work closely with 1st Lieutenant Ch’Thorthaan and work together so that each department can compliment the other when needed." Andreas replied.

"I wholeheartedly agree, my father raised me with the mindset 'Prepare for the worst, and hope for the best.' I believe I read in some of the documentation I read that there would be some watchstanding and cross training with some of the Marines. Will they just be standing Security watches within the ship or will they be trained on the Sec/Tac Console as well?"

"At this point just the watches. You have more than enough bridge duty staff in your department. If that changes, we'll sit down to discuss that possibility."

"Roger that, is there anything else I can do for you sir?" Judah asked expectantly. He was anxious to get to his department and meet the other members of his department.

Andreas smiled at the Lieutenant's eagerness as he got up from his chair. "That's about it for now, Lieutenant. I'll let you get settled in." Offering his hand, "Welcome aboard, I look forward to serving with you."

Judah stood and shook the Captain's hand, "Thank you sir, I look forward to serving with you as well."
