Inspecting the New Fighters
Posted on Wed Aug 8th, 2018 @ 12:51pm by Captain Andreas O'Shaunessy & 1st Lieutenant Ali'x'in "Alexander" Ch’Thorthaan IV
Mission:
Shakedown Cruise
Location: Marine Country
Andreas had been so caught up in getting the Alabama out of space dock that he'd almost forgotten about the new Gryphon Class fighters that the Marines had received just prior to departure.
=/\= Lieutenant Ch'Thorthaan, do you have a few minutes to show me the new Gryphons? =/\= He asked.
=/\= Aye Sir, already working on them right now with the pilots.=/\= he responded, kneeling next to one of the fighters. As the pilot and deckhand were running the diagnostics on all external functions.
=/\= Excellent, I'll be there shortly. =/\= Andreas replied as he headed to the nearest turbolift.
Walking out onto the flight deck, Andreas scanned the room to find the Marine CO. Finding him, he made a bee line to where the crew was working.
"Good day, Lieutenant. How are the Gryphons shaping up?"
Alexander stood up, "Doing good skipper. I have the Pilot and Co-Pilot running the diagnostic first hand. While the deck crew monitors. Making sure they both understand the fighter at a maintenance level." gesturing towards three bodies extending out from under the both Gryphon type fighters. "They should be ready for deployment as soon as we arrive."
"Great idea. Knowing something from more than one perspective allows us to appreciate it more. Your pilots will not only appreciate these fighters more now, but they will also be able to troubleshoot and do minor repairs at times when the maintenance crew is not readily available." Andreas said as he walked around the fighter. "My maintenance skills are fairly basic, Lieutenant, but is there anything I can help with while I'm down here?"
"You can help me run the internal ones, while we attach the HRASS to the fighters," he said moving towards the Pilot and Co-Pilot seats.
"Sounds good to me." Andreas said as he hopped up into the copilot seat. "You'll have to bear with me a bit, Lieutenant, I'm not up to speed on the new class' of fighters."
"That is alright sir, if you can check the status of the weapon systems starting with the phaser banks" he said taking his role in the pilot's seat bringing up the rest of the status of the ship on his console.
Tapping a few commands into the console, Andreas pulled up the weapon's array. For the most part, everything seemed to be working perfectly. "The phaser banks seems to be out of alignment by 5.65%. I know that that isn't much outside of accepted variances, but I'd like to see it back below 1.8%."
"Understood Sir" Alexander responded, moving to turn to his lower right-hand side and popping open a hatch, he used an engineering tricorder to locate the problem. After adjusting the weapons relay, he turned back to his console. "Think that might do it if you wouldn't mind rechecking it." he said replacing the hatch cover and locking it down.
"That did it, thank you, Lieutenant." Andreas said as he continued his checks. "Everything else seems to check out ok." Sitting back in the chair, he couldn't help but wonder how the fighters handled.
"Lieutenant, I was wondering if I could ask a favour. I've never been out in a fighter before. Do you think it would be possible to take me out for a test drive?"
"Tis your Ship and Fighter, if you'd like to go out we can arrange it. I can take you or one of the pilots can take you out." he said tapping his PADD to approve the fighter for operational use.
"Thank you, Lieutenant. This is your domain down here, though, so I don't want to step on your toes. It doesn't have to be now, whenever you can spare some time and after they've been cleared by you and your flight crews."
