Touching Base

Posted on Sun Jan 27th, 2019 @ 5:34pm by Captain Andreas O'Shaunessy & Lieutenant JG Judah Taggart

Mission: R&R

Even before Andreas had been given command of the Alabama, he'd always had mixed feelings about returning to space dock as that was usually when personnel changes were made. Now that he was a CO, it had the same concerns, but also meant more meetings with the brass, atoning for any sins that may have occurred while away. Thankfully, the shakedown cruise went well, so he had no sins to atone for and he was confident that any personnel changes that may come his way would end up as well as the changes that had occurred already.

He'd just finished meetings with the Engineers in charge of changing out the Mission POD and with the station brass for a mission debriefing. His original intent was to relax for a bit, but thought he'd touch base with his Chief Sec/Tac first. Tapping his comm badge, "O'Shaunessy to Taggart, do you have a couple of minutes to touch base?"

Taggart sat in his office reviewing personnel logs and their watch qualifications while enjoying the quiet of a minimally manned ship in port. After taking notes he began preparing a watch schedule that allowed some of his junior officers and enlisted to rotate through the different security positions on the ship, including shadowing the Sec Station on the Bridge. Just as he began reviewing the weapons side of the department his comm badge beeped.

"Aye Captain," he replied after being summoned. He picked up his PADD as he headed to the turbolift. Apparently, the CO was a bit of a workaholic also.

Taggart stepped off the lift and walked to the Captain's ready room. "Lt Taggart, reporting sir," he stated as he stood outside the door.

Andreas pressed the button to release the door. "Thank you for coming Lieutenant. Grab a chair."

Taggart walked in and sat down as instructed, "Good Morning Sir," he said.

Andreas smiled. "Thanks for coming. I won't take up too much of your time, Lieutenant, I know you're busy. I just wanted to see how things were going with you and your department and offer any assistance I can."

"Thank you Sir, I've been mostly catching up on paperwork and reading reports. I have focused mostly on Security this week and will be taking a deep dive into Tactical next week. Most of the crew have met the basic Starfleet requirements, but I want to be the best and lead the best; if you know what I know mean. I'd like to propose a training schedule for the crew, first a "Repel Borders" and secondly I'd like to do some live fire training, test these new weapons and make sure everything is sighted in properly. I don't want to step on anyone's toes but the engineers that installed and tested the weapons remain behind and their lives aren't on the line if weapons fail."

Andreas nodded. "I understand completely, Lieutenant. I'm sure we can work something out for the live fires once the team is done installing the new POD. From what I understand, they just have another day or two of fine tuning before they're ready to sign off on it."

"Sounds good Captain, I will have the schedules prepared and sent to you by tomorrow. I believe that was all I had sir, will you be joining us for a drink later?"

"Thank you, Lieutenant. I'll make sure I come out for at least 2 rounds. Since you've already offered the first round, I'll get the second." Andreas replied with a wink. "See you at the pub."

"Aye Captain I will see you there," Taggart said as he stood and waited to be dismissed.

"Dismissed, Lieutenant." Andreas said with a nod. Once the Lieutenant left, he started reading up more on the new mission POD they were installing.
