The Doctor is in.

Posted on Tue Apr 10th, 2018 @ 12:59pm by Captain Andreas O'Shaunessy & Lieutenant T'vash

Mission: New Ship, New Crew
Location: Captain's Ready Room

Sitting in his ready room after Commander Odegaard left, Andreas was happy with the way things were going and how the XO was handling it.

He reopened the personnel file and saw that his CMO, a Lieutenant T'vash, had arrived. =/\= O'Shaunessy to T'vash, are you available for a quick meeting? =/\=

T'vash was actually already on her way to the Commanding Officer's office, prior to starting her duty assignment, per regulations. "I shall be there within the next 30 seconds, barring unfortunate delays." She noted, in a calm tone. "I was already on my way."

Andreas got up and walked around his desk just as the chime went off. "Come in, Doctor." Pausing until she came in and the doors closed behind her. "Welcome aboard the Alabama."

T'vash raised her hand in the typical Vulcan salute. "Peace, and long life, Captain." T'vash noted, in a calm, controlled tone.

Andreas returned the Vulcan salute. "Live long and prosper, Doctor." Motioning towards an empty chair, he went back behind his desk and sat down himself. "We're going to be at the station for another few days, so you have some time to settle in and finish stocking sickbay with whatever you feel you'll need. Is there anything I can do for you in the meantime?"

"Not that I am presently aware of. I have one of the medical officers I arrived with already doing an inventory of stock shortages." T'vash replied. "Is there any urgent concerns that you need addressed? Prescriptions? Medical treatments I should know of? I am afraid I have lapsed in my normal efficiency, and am behind on my paperwork."

Andreas thought for a moment before responding. "Not that I can think of off the top of my head. I've fallen behind on my training regime, but plan to jump back in tomorrow. While I'll try to ease back into it, I do tend to rush into things at times, so I may come to you with a pulled muscle or something along those lines."

"That is not an uncommon thing to come across." T'vash nodded. "You can help prepare yourself for it, ahead of time, by eating high calcium, low potassium foods. Avoid things like potatoes, bananas, and fish. They contain sufficient amounts of potassium to reduce your calcium levels beyond the point which your body benefits from them, and calcium is important for bone and muscle healing."

"Thank you for the advice. I'll do that." Andreas replied. "Have you had a chance to settle into your quarters yet? Is there anything you'll need on that front?"

"I have not, but I am much more utilitarian in my usage of my quarters than most persons you would ask that of." T'vash nodded. "My requirements of my quarters involve a level surface to rest upon, and a sonic shower. If they do not contain such amenities, I worry about the state of the base Engineering department."

"Fair enough. I'd be pretty irritated if we were missing your needs in any of our quarters. Thankfully we haven't come across that ... yet." Andreas said. Well, Doctor, I think we've covered what we need to cover for now. I'll come and see you at some point over the next 3 days for my base line physical and ask that the crew do the same."

"I appreciate your attentiveness to that matter. It is a distressing custom among human Commanding Officers, to avoid medical treatment, and I have grown particularly instructive on methods with which to circumvent these customs." T'vash replied, with a nod of her head.

"I won't lie, it's more to get it out of the way quickly so I don't have it looming over my head. Plus, it saves both of us from your ordering me to report to you for it." Andreas said with a smile.

"I rarely attempt such an order. Failure to report is grounds to have you restricted to the brig, and it has been my experience that such warnings, and mention that I am perfectly capable of giving you a physical through a forcefield is sufficient to encourage recalcitrant members of staff to reconsider such traditions." T'vash replied, with a raised eyebrow. "Action is far more effective, than word, though the placebo effect has it's uses. I trust I can consider you appropriately immunized from such customs."

Andreas smiled. "I am appropriately immunized. I thank you for your time, Doctor. Is there anything else I can do for you or any other questions you have for me?"

"Absolutely none." T'vash replied. "While this is a seemingly selfish request, given that you are in command of this vessel, and are responsible for my life, and those of us around us both, I wish you peace, and a very long life. I shall endeavor to ensure the latter, and would appreciate your assistance on this matter."

Andreas stood up and walked around his desk. "I will definitely do my part, Doctor. Thank you for your time." He said as he walked the doctor out.
